A few planetary orbits after introducing their stylish strand of shadowed glam rock verging on psych synth punk via self-released tape, Street Cleaning Machines of the World (May 25th, 2021), Crasher (Montréal, QC) are back with a long-awaited sophomore effort. Named after their beloved, now defunct art space, Odditi Populaire is all at once an ode to creativity, a cryptic love letter, and an analog manifesto. Propelled by fast-paced drums—both acoustic and electronic—as a means to electrify heavenly melodies, the 10-track long-player offers a modern take on electro-punk, combining beautifully erratic songwriting with synthesizer and bass-heavy arrangements.

Whether sung, narrated or shouted, lyrics from Crasher’s Odditi Populaire feature inspired poetry from singer-songwriter Airick Asher Woodhead, as well as from a handful of guest lyricists, namely: Dusty Lee from Slash Need on “Stories”; Ky Jukka from Snake Of Rhyme on “No One’s War”; and Toronto poet Ali Laasasenaho on “Dead System Man”. Through a distinct lyrical landscape, romantic and defiant songs alike muse about love, longing, and battling inner struggles, also grappling with misdirection, flawed systems, and unattainable, unwanted conformity. From its surrealist opener about mannequins in a windowless airport all the the way to its closer, a metaphorically-dense slowjam about choices while facing the unknown, the album’s evocative imagery slowly permeates our subconscious mind by way of striking, reverb-laden melodies.

Recorded between 2021 and 2025 within the confines of Crasher’s late subterranean sonic laboratory, Odditi Populaire’s gritty production showcases keyboardist/vocalist Woodhead, bassist Kai Thorpe, and drummer Tyrin Kelly’s otherworldly symbiotic musicality by harnessing the raw energy, aplomb, and verve of their live set. In doing so, with help from recording/mastering engineer Asher Gould-Murtagh (Born Ruffians, Mother Tongues, Le Ren) and mixing engineer Josh Korody (Tanya Tagaq, Zoon, Tess Parks), the three-piece deliver a poignant sonic eulogy in memory of their feu! industrial art space… This must-listen for fans of punk-infused new wave is scheduled for November 7th, 2025 via Mothland.

Prenant son titre de leur local d’art tant chéri et maintenant disparu, Odditi Populaire est à la fois une ode à la créativité, une lettre d’amour cryptique et un manifeste analogique. Propulsé par des batteries rapides – acoustiques comme électroniques – comme moyen d’électrifier des mélodies célestes, ce long jeu de 10 titres offre une approche moderne à l’électro-punk, combinant une composition magnifiquement erratique avec des arrangements riches en synthétiseurs et en guitare-basse.
