Paul Jacobs

A DIY rock'n'roll machine surfing on grease, as sweaty and motley as his self-drawn album covers, Paul Jacobs runs on day-glo slickness and creative frenzy (with seven albums and a slew of EPs and singles in only five years, his floodgates are fully open). The native of Windsor, Ontario, now established in Montreal, epitomizes the new garage sound while also encapsulating modern tones in his smooth song-writing.

The past 2 years Paul Jacobs has released 2 albums in the UK (Pictures, Movies & Apartments, 2016 and Easy!, 2018) all the while playing a sizable amount of shows in Canada, the U.S., the U.K. and Europe. Stolen Body Records, Zuma Bookings and Mutante PR have put together his current promotional tour for his latest release, Easy!, that sees him visit north of 30 European cities between Oct. 30 and Dec. 10, 2018.

Over the years Paul Jacobs has shared stages with Amyl & The Sniffers, PyPy, Demon's Claws and Les Marinellis, spewing out savagely catchy songs while beer and other bodily fluids flow freely through the crowd. He also took part in a multitude of festivals including: M For Montreal, Pop Montreal, FME, RIDM, Distorsion Psych Fest and Les Nuits Psychédéliques De Québec.

Pretty good, (...) I though it was good!
— Iggy Pop on BBC 6
With hair in his face and limbs that jolted and snapped like fleshy whips, Jacobs blasted through every song, a cacophony of percussion and mangled guitar landing somewhere between lo-fi punk and a massive spurt of unfiltered aggression. He sings angrily, he plays angrily, and he even sips beer with a hint of rage. Jacobs makes anger seem real and natural and totally alluring.
— Consequence Of Sound
Paul Jacobs is a mad garage-rock scientist.
— Weird Canada
Throughout, there are hooks and melodies – the album positively drips with them – but it’s combined with a singleminded wildness that’s desperately exciting. Pictures, Movies and Apartments might be the best garage punk record of the year.
— The Guardian
Perhaps it’s the scraggly hair or the slender, shirtless body that seems to have a fair share of wear and tear, but Paul Jacobs comes across as a kindred spirit of Iggy Pop. Positioning himself at the front of the crowd, Jacobs went to war with his seven-piece band through a series of psych pop songs played with a raw punk energy. The keyboardist’s use of maraca and tom drum and Jacobs’ handclap wielding sample pad added the perfect dose of primal percussion as their kaleidoscopic dream-world went up in flames with each passing tune.
