Black Legary

Born out of the core of two of Montreal’s beloved outfits (Patrick Watson and The Barr Brothers), Black Legary is a rhythm section that has broken away from the sidelines and put itself front-and-centre. Comprised of bass players Mishka Stein and Morgan Moore, and drummer Robbie Kuster, this three-headed frontman-beast sits comfortably outside the box, sticking out of any crowd.

Following the release of their first EP Forever Dodo (2016), a collection of anthemic basslines, soaring swells, jaw-dropping drum fills and introspective texts, Black Legary played a number of festivals, garnering loyal fans in their hometown of Montreal and outside their magical city.

Their latest album, Silurian Memorii, was released Nov 9, 2018 on Balkan Donkey Record furthermore embodying the unorthodox trio’s unique approach to songwriting. Filled with insanely catchy Prog Pop that is fresh, wild and limitless, this opus (co-produced by Warren Spicer of Plants and Animals) proves these guys are masters of groove and sonic extravagance. What’s more, their blend of eccentric hooks and uncanny musicianship translates just as well on stage as it does on speakers.

The most impressive aspect of their performance was the fantastic vocals, with all three members contributing. The strongest moments of the set came when the band united in gorgeous three-part harmonies that astounded the unsuspecting crowd with beautifully crisp melodies. If this showcase is any indication, Black Legary is headed for a successful run with their fantastic debut record. Don’t miss out.
— Keep MTL Weird
With offbeat, quirky time signatures and wild stylistic changes, the band navigates between Queen-like bombast and pulsing beats that sound like they came directly from the dusty cartridge of a long out-of-print NES game,

“ ...the band stretches both the language and structure of rock into realms of jazz, symphonic and ambient music. The absence of mainstream compromises and the meticulousness of their production is a promise to nothing more than a large cult of following.”
